Cloudflare launches Turnstile Spin for AI-driven bot protection

Cloudflare has introduced Turnstile Spin, a feature designed to simplify the deployment of its Turnstile bot protection system by leveraging AI coding agents. The tool targets users who lack backend development experience but still require automated security measures against abusive traffic. Turnstile, launched in 2023 as a CAPTCHA alternative, has seen rapid adoption, with over 23,000 new widgets created in a single week earlier this year and approximately three billion verifications processed daily on weekdays. However, its initial two-step implementation—requiring frontend widget integration and backend token validation—posed a barrier for non-technical users. Turnstile Spin addresses this by automating both steps through AI agents, which identify relevant code sections, propose changes, and implement them after user approval.

How Turnstile Spin works

Turnstile Spin operates within three distinct scenarios. For new installations, the tool embeds the Turnstile widget into a website’s frontend and configures the backend Siteverify API call from scratch. In cases where an existing Turnstile widget lacks proper backend validation, Spin detects the issue and adds the missing verification step while preserving the widget’s functionality. The tool also supports migrations from other CAPTCHA providers by identifying legacy markers and replacing them with Turnstile’s components. Importantly, Spin does not transmit application code to Cloudflare or modify it remotely; all changes are executed locally by the user’s preferred AI agent, such as Claude Code or Cursor, using the existing codebase. The only Cloudflare-specific addition is the Turnstile widget itself, while validation logic remains within the user’s backend infrastructure.

Adoption and early results

Since its release in July 2026, Turnstile Spin has facilitated over 65,000 successful widget creations, with developers copying the generated prompt more than 30,000 times. The tool’s integration into AI-driven development workflows reflects broader industry shifts, where coding agents are increasingly used to build functional websites rapidly. Cloudflare noted that this trend has expanded the pool of users requiring bot protection, while also providing attackers with more sophisticated automation tools. Turnstile Spin aims to bridge this gap by making security implementations accessible to both traditional developers and those relying on AI-assisted workflows. Users can initiate Spin through the Cloudflare dashboard, Wrangler CLI, or by pasting a public skill URL into their AI agent.
